When There is Murder in the Marriage

We've been ministering to women whose lives have been threatened by their husbands. Last night, a woman in my neighborhood was the victim of a domestic violence murder. Recently, the Lord said to me, there is murder in marriages. He also said, "I am ministering to individuals who are married, not necessarily to marriages."

Yes, God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16). He hates other things as well: arrogance (Proverbs 6:16-17), lying (Proverbs 6:16-17) , killing of the innocent (Proverbs 6:16-17), plotting to do evil (Proverbs 6:18), being eager to do evil (Proverbs 6:16), perjury (Proverbs 6:19), religious hypocrisy (Isaiah 1:14-17), and those who love violence (Psalm 11:5).

This list covers emotional abuse, physical abuse / domestic violence, manipulation and control, rage, and infidelity. Narcissistic control over another person would be included in these offenses.

God hates divorce, but He does not prohibit it. He made provision for it. God divorced Israel. Then He urged her to come back to Him (Jeremiah 3). The law at the time said a husband cannot remarry a wife that he divorced, but God's grace is higher than the law. Believers have to get the full counsel of God on a topic as serious as marriage and divorce. Otherwise, we are in danger of counseling from a spirit of religion and of playing church because we feel we can't let others know what is happening in our homes. Our well-meaning advice too often amounts to manipulation and control.

God wants spiritual freedom for His beloved children. If one spouse refuses the offers and opportunities to get free, made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God will and has - many times - released the other spouse from the union. Many ministers of the gospel have been divorced. Divorce itself does not disqualify anyone from being anointed and used by God.

Would you have someone stay in a house or in a union where the one who is expected to love them most threatens their life or intentionally endangers them?

If you have eyes to see, you will recognize that God is holding out an offer for deliverance to individuals who are suffering at the hands of demonic powers in their marriages. This deliverance requires more than casting out a devil or two. If there is demonic activity in your marriage, cry out to God - for yourself and for your spouse - and the Holy Spirit will direct you day-by-day what to do. He will order your steps. There is no quick fix, just daily obedience to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Some marriages will survive. Some won't.

If you are a narcissistic partner, you have a window for repentance, but you don't have forever. If you are under demonic control, you will need to submit to God and resist the devil UNTIL he flees from you. May God give you grace for turning (repentance).

See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if the people did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject Him who warns us from heaven? (Hebrews 12)
